Politics:

-- In a meeting with Chinese Premier Li Keqiang yesterday in Nanjing, Vietnamese PM Nguyen Tan Dung confirmed that both countries will keep on strengthening the neighbor relationship for friendship and cooperation.

-- Ho Chi Minh City authorities have proposed the National Assembly to adjust the salary system so that State agencies will not lose qualified officials.

Society:

-- Chau Doc was yesterday recognized as the town in the administrative level in the Mekong Delta province of An Giang. So the province now has two towns, Long Xuyen and Chau Doc.

-- The amount of passengers going on Cat Lai Ferry on the two holiday days from September 1-2 reached a high record, around 173,000 people. The ferry connects Districts 2 and Can Gio in Ho Chi Minh City.

-- Over 100 hectares of cajuput forests in the U Minh Ha National Park in Ca Mau Province have been hit by a disease that killed 10-20 percent of the amount of the trees there.

-- Hundreds of kilometers of concrete-surfaced road from Da Nang to Kon Tum have been downgraded and seriously damaged.

Business:

-- As Thailand decreases its export price of rice which badly affects the export rice of Vietnam, the Vietnam Food Association has suggested the government to buy an addition of 300,000 tons of rice for reserve to stabilize the rice price in the domestic market.

-- The import of agricultural products as potato, vegetable, fruits, carrot, garlic, and apple from China into Vietnam has recently slowed down after some products failed to meet safety standards. The import of some of the Chinese products went down 70 percent this year against the average amount of last year.

-- A regulation that rules enterprises going into operation for less than 12 months must be checked by tax agencies before having their invoices printed has been called a regress in administrative management.

-- Participant nations attending the Trans-Pacific Strategic Economic Partnership negotiations worry that the job may not complete this year.

-- Household appliances supermarket Home One located at streets Phan Van Tri and Nguyen Oanh in Go Vap District, HCMC closed down as of August 31 due to business failure.

Lifestyle:

-- The modified version of the book on Vietnamese spy Pham Xuan An, entitled “Perfect spy X6 – the incredible double life of Pham Xuan An, Reuters, Time, New York Herald Tribune reporter & Vietnamese strategic intelligence general” is to be distributed in Vietnam.
