Advancing two spots from last year, metro Denver is now the eighth-best market for tech talent according to CBRE’s annual Scoring Tech Talent Report. The region gained high marks for its tech industry growth, educational attainment and ability to attract tech workers from out of state. With tech industry jobs being created at a faster pace than ever before, the report also finds that greater Denver is among the three most competitive markets in North America for attracting and retaining tech talent.
  • The Denver/Boulder tech labor force grew 30.9%, adding more than 25,000 tech workers over the past five years.
  • Metro Denver is the 13th largest tech talent market in North America with a tech talent labor pool of 107,170—and one of the most “tech-centric” markets with tech representing 6.5% of total employment, well above the U.S. average of 3.7%.
  • The metro Denver market ranks third for tech labor market competitiveness, behind only the San Francisco Bay Area and Seattle.
  • The urban centers of Denver and Boulder are the fifth highest markets for educational attainment with 53% of residents holding a bachelor’s degree or higher.
  • Denver/Boulder is classified as a “brain gain” market—in the last five years, the region had an inflow of 6,500 more jobs than tech graduates.
