AI Driving VC Funding in U.S. and Across the SF Bay Area

Artificial intelligence venture capital funding increased to 33% of total U.S. VC funding in H1 2024, up from about 14% across the years 2019-2022. The San Francisco Bay Area accounted for 76% of AI VC funding in H1 2024 and 57% since 2019.

During Q2 2024, the San Francisco Bay Area accounted for 47% of total VC funding in the U.S. This included 344 deals for $16.9 billion. AI companies accounted for $9.7 billion, which was the largest quarterly dollar volume since CBRE began tracking AI in 2019.
 
New York was the second-highest funded metro in Q2 2024 for both total and AI with $6.9 billion across 213 deals and $2.2 billion across 22 deals, respectively.

By industry, SF Bay Area technology companies received $13.9 billion and life sciences companies received $2.3 billion of VC funding in Q2 2024. For life sciences, the SF Bay Area was the top funded metro area, followed by Boston at $1.4 billion.
